In April 2016 a series of Displaced Duets and Performances took place across stations and trains on London Underground Victoria Line tube, to mark its 60th anniversary. As Costume designer, I collaborated with composer Matt Rogers and London Sinfonietta, to create the first commissioned classical composition and performances to be experienced within the Underground network.

Inspired by concepts of relocation and everyday journeying, designs riff on the heritage tile designs first created to identify each Victoria Line station. Costume design took the lead in creating the visual identity of the performance and choreography, displaced on the performers’ costumed body, as they moved across platforms, escalators and trains seen by millions across the network. With no rehearsal possible on the Underground and one costume fitting before hand painting and printing by the team, performers visualised their costumes from designs and textile samples before they were revealed on the day of performance.
