Lucy Algar is an artist, performance designer and Course Leader of the BA Theatre Design course at Wimbledon College of Arts, University of the Arts London. Her recent work focuses primarily on the role of drawing in relation to theatre design, both within her own practice and in her teaching.

This has been the core drive of her 2018 Drawing Performance project which saw students engage with drawing as the primary investigative and communication tool of the theatre designer. Over the past 3 years she has worked as designer with dancer/choreographer on a range of shows which have been performed at The Print Room/Coronet, The Pleasance and at Wimbledon and Chelsea Colleges of Art.

Drawing Performance

Role/Title: Teacher/Facilitator
Year of Production Opening: 2018
Venue: Wimbledon College of Arts / Bath Spa University
My Drawing Performance project relates directly to the processes designers and performers use when making work.

By bringing performers and students (from theatre design, sculpture, painting, costume design and dance courses) together everyone is able to engage with the similarities and differences of a wide variety of theatre-makers working methods. This project has enabled me to work alongside my main collaborator, Kirill Burlov, and further our own practices.
