In 1727, Janet Horne was the last person to be burnt as a witch in Scotland. She had scratched a living with her daughter on a barren hillside on the north east coast.

I wished to show the place as they saw it – a poor circle of land and piece of sky, where a break in the clouds takes you closer to harvest or famine. But we also see a place altered through their belief in their power over the natural world, where the clouds dance to their tune and the earth becomes the surface of the moon.
